Universe of Doula Arts & Sciences Mentorship
Mentorship and community for doulas who want to stay rooted in the work.
There’s only so much you can learn in a doula training. The rest comes from doing the work, asking questions, making mistakes, and having good people to learn alongside.
Roots and Anchor are ongoing mentorship communities for doulas who want thoughtful conversation, practical resources, and a place to keep learning together.
Find your people. Keep growing in your practice.
Whether you’re just beginning your work as a doula or you’ve been doing this for years, having a community of people to learn alongside makes a difference.

Doula work asks a lot of us.
It asks us to be curious, resourceful, compassionate, and willing to keep learning. It asks us to navigate complicated situations, examine our own assumptions, and sometimes sit with questions that don’t have easy answers.
And while so much of what we learn comes from experience, we shouldn’t have to make sense of those experiences alone.
Roots & Anchor are monthly mentorship circles where we bring our questions, share what we’re learning, talk through the challenges of this work, and learn from one another.
Roots
For newer doulas, returning doulas, and doulas who want steadier foundations.
Roots is a mentorship circle for building confidence, clarifying your role, asking real questions, and developing a grounded approach to client care.
Inside Roots, we talk about the practical, ethical, and emotional realities of doula work.
This circle is for you if you want support with:
- Understanding your scope and boundaries
- Building confidence with clients and care teams
- Navigating early questions without shame
- Developing your voice as a doula
- Staying connected to justice-centered, human-centered care
Roots is $49/month.
Anchor
An interdisciplinary mentorship circle for doulas with three or more years of experience who are ready to expand and deepen their practice.
Anchor brings together experienced doulas working across birth, postpartum, gender, death, and other areas of care. There’s something especially valuable about learning alongside practitioners whose work intersects with your own but whose experiences, perspectives, and approaches may be entirely different.
Our conversations often move beyond individual client care into the bigger questions of doula practice. We examine our roles within healthcare systems, our relationships to power and accountability, and the ways our work can influence the communities and systems we’re part of.
Anchor is also a place to explore what comes next in your professional life. Over the years, I’ve supported doulas as they’ve developed mentorship programs of their own, built collectives, expanded their businesses, and stepped into new roles as educators and leaders.
Inside Anchor, we explore:
- Interdisciplinary approaches to care and what we can learn from doulas working in different specialties.
- Growing and evolving your practice, whether that means expanding your services, building a collective, or developing new offerings.
- Mentoring other doulas and stepping into teaching, leadership, and community-building roles.
- Understanding the doula’s place within healthcare systems, institutions, and the broader culture.
- Navigating complex ethical questions, professional relationships, and issues of power, harm, and accountability.
- Finding ways to sustain a meaningful practice as your experience, responsibilities, and interests evolve.
Anchor is $49/month.

About Erica
I’m a doula, educator, herbalist, and the founder of Birdsong Doulas. I’ve spent more than 13 years working with families, mentoring doulas, and thinking deeply about how we learn to do this work well.
Over the years, I’ve come to appreciate just how much of our education happens after our initial training. Through the families we support, the questions we ask, and the wisdom of other practitioners.
I created Roots & Anchor because I believe doulas deserve ongoing mentorship and a professional community they can return to throughout their careers. I’m especially interested in the conversations that help us examine our practices, expand our understanding of care, and imagine what else is possible for doula work.
This membership is for doulas who want to keep learning in community.
It is for doulas who know doula ship is relational, political, embodied, and personal.
It is for doulas who want mentorship without hierarchy, support without shame, and conversation that respects the complexity of the work.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to join Roots before I can join Anchor?
No. Roots and Anchor are separate circles with different conversations. One does not come before the other. Choose the circle that fits your needs now.
Can I switch circles later?
Â
Of course! Your needs as a doula will change over time, and you’re always welcome to move between Roots and Anchor.
We’ve had experienced doulas join Roots because they’re starting something new, returning to practice after time away, or simply wanting to revisit their foundations. We’ve also had doulas begin in Roots and eventually find themselves drawn to the  conversations happening in Anchor.
The three-year distinction is a helpful guide, but it isn’t a rule. You know your practice and what kind of support would be most useful to you. And if that changes, just reach out to me and we’ll get you settled into the other circle.
Where does the community live?
The online doula community and The Doula Library live inside Kajabi. Members also have access to a private Signal group for informal conversation.
What if I cannot attend live every month?
The heart of Roots & Anchor is live community and conversation. Come when you can and use the member space, Signal group, and The Doula Library to stay connected between gatherings.
Is there a long-term commitment?
Roots and Anchor are monthly memberships, and you’re welcome to stay for as long as the community is useful to you. If you decide it’s time to leave, you can cancel your membership before your next billing date to avoid another charge.
Of course, I hope you’ll find a place here that you’ll want to return to month after month, but I also understand that our needs, schedules, and circumstances change.

Stay connected to the work.
